My 2024 Year In Review

The Year of Our Lord 2024 was a real bummer for me like it was for a lot of people. Somehow, I made it out alive and now I am here in 2025 asking the age-old question: what the hell just happened?

Family Life

The first place to start is my family. At the end of 2023, I made the decision to help take care of my grandmother. This included moving into her house and taking a crash course in caring for an elderly family member with dementia.

It hasn’t been easy and was made more difficult by some falls and a few trips to the hospital. Everything came to a head when she was hospitalized with pancreatitis.

What I thought was going to be a routine hospital visit (granny would be getting out in a day) turned into a three-month existential crisis.

First, they decided that my grandmother would have a difficult time recovering from gallbladder surgery, so they decided to try to remove the stone by itself. The problem was that there were no beds open at the time so she spent four days in the emergency room. The first time the surgery was scheduled it had to be canceled because the operating room was full with an emergency.

It took nearly two weeks before they could perform the procedure and when they finally got around to it, they could remove the stone.
