Why I Meditate

I’ve had an on-again-off-again relationship with meditation since 2010. Right now it’s on again. But unlike most of my exes, getting back together with meditation has been beneficial in every area of my life.

For the last few months, I’ve been going through physical therapy for my broken arm. Progress has been very slow and I’ve been relatively depressed at times. Over the last few weeks, I’ve started meditating for 20 minutes every morning and my outlook has definitely changed.

While I still get frustrated from time to time I’m able to deal with the slow nature of my recovery and the pain that I’m going through 3 times a week with more elegance and restraint.

I am also able to deal with other areas of my life much easier now that I meditate on a daily basis. My broken arm had me laid up for quite a while and I wound up gaining nearly 30 pounds in the process. Normally this would have me very depressed, very angry, and looking for someone to blame. But now that I’m meditating the solution seems a lot clearer. Just get up off my ass and start sweating.

Meditation also helps in my professional life. I have been a freelance writer since 2010 but now I’m looking to make a change. Normally that would scare the hell out of me but I’ve been able to face this decision with a lot more calmness and serenity.
